Steam “Accidental Report” Support Impersonation Scam

A Discord user initiated contact claiming they had accidentally reported the victim's Steam account for an illegal purchase. They stated that Steam Support had told them the victim's account could be permanently suspended unless the victim appealed the report. The user then directed the victim toward an alleged Steam representative using Discord. The account presented itself as “Robert Barkow (Developer)” and used Steam branding and a developer-style identity to appear legitimate. The supposed representative requested details about the incident and screenshots of the victim's conversation with the original user. They then claimed they had located the report, reviewed internal records associated with the Steam account, and determined that the victim may have been reported by mistake. This appears consistent with the commonly used Steam “accidental report” impersonation scam. The initial account creates urgency by claiming the victim's Steam account is at risk, while a second account impersonates Steam staff/support to establish credibility and continue the social-engineering process. The apparent objective is to convince the victim that the impersonator has authority over their Steam account and then obtain information, credentials, authentication codes, account changes, payments, or other access that could ultimately result in account takeover. Steam support communications and account disputes should be handled through Steam's official support system rather than through purported Steam administrators or developers contacting users through Discord. Screenshots of the conversation and the impersonating account are attached as evidence.
